TOAW Partner Spotlight: Action for Healthy Kids
Action for Healthy Kids was formed in 2002 when then Surgeon General David Satcher declared the United States had an obesity epidemic. Action for Healthy Kids operates under three key elements that have made the organization a success: school action plans, programs and practices, and school-family-community partnerships. The organization has promoted universal breakfast and breakfast in the classroom, and has awarded more than $200,000 in grants for Texas schools. Over the past 12 years Action for Healthy Kids has grown to influence more than 5,000 schools. Texas Action for Healthy Kids also hosts the TAHK Annual Summit and Awards for Excellence in School Health. We appreciate the work behind this organization and their partnership in making healthier environments for kids to live healthier lives!
