In a movement as big as the fight against obesity in Texas, it takes a number of people, organizations and teams to make a difference with such a significant problem. Texas Obesity Awareness Week (TOAW) allows these groups to get together and join efforts to combat obesity and raise awareness in prevention. Our Center has had the opportunity to work with an assortment of amazing teams, particularly when planning the Texas Health Champion award ceremony. In honor of this exceptional partnership we'd like to spotlight the organizations we work with throughout this special week. We will highlight one partners each day of TOAW to share the wonderful work they do in their effort to promote healthy living in Texas. First up, Texas Health Institute.
Texas Health Institute is driven by their mission of improving the health of Texans and their communities. As an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit, THI works to provide solutions to accomplish quality, access, and cost effectiveness. THI annually hosts the Southern Obesity Summit (SOS). In its 9th year, it is the largest regional obesity prevention event in the United States, drawing hundreds of participants from the 16 Southern States. Together, these states join forces to fight obesity. Texas Health Institute awards a youth scholarship to SOS annually to the winner of the Rising Star Award during Texas Obesity Awareness Week.
Thanks to Texas Healthy Institute for their influential work in raising awareness in preventing and reducing the problem of obesity in Texas. Register here for the Texas Health Champion Award Ceremony on September 15th.
